2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Rescue Challenged Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Shift Follows Poor Response

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last autumn.

Recently, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now overhauling the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

This announcement mirrors a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Below is the entire message from Ismailer's communication:

Team—

I know you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented creators we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to mind and overhauled the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its ambition to our audience.

The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of the team. Following some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.

His leadership and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most popular franchises in gaming, including the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to continue witnessing the development of Project ETHOS in the months to follow.

David

Experience of the Incoming Leader

The appointee currently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in diverse development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Title Information and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, 31st Union presented the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the style."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that change every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and trust your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is in your hands."

Project Ethos lacks an announced launch window or consoles, but players can anticipate further news as production progresses.
