England to Begin Euro 2028 Quest at the Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they secure the relatively straightforward qualification for a competition hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions match since May 2016, when the Turkish team were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is expected to welcome the England side for their inaugural game on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, if they top the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would occur at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Opening and Demonstration
The event was inaugurated at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from European football’s governing body and the host FAs were confronted as they arrived the venue by around fifty activists, who urged the Israeli team to be kicked out from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Signs were held up with messages saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be held at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will feature Wales if they secure a place.
Wembley will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be staged on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at 5:00 PM.
It is hoped that an earlier kick-off, which will also be used for European club finals from the following campaign, will cater to family audiences and help reach a broader range of audiences.
Qualifying Teams
The Republic of Ireland are due to play their initial fixture at the Aviva Stadium and the Scottish team would follow suit at Glasgow’s Hampden Park.
The national sides of all four hosts will take part in the preliminary stage; two automatic spots will be reserved for any that miss out on the finals through the standard process.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and The North London arena finalize the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight played at the national stadium of each host.
The qualification draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it became clear Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.
Tournament Vision
“The event will be a championship for the followers and a showcase of everything we cherish about the game – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”
Over 3 million passes, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be made available to supporters.
