Igor Jesus found the net on two occasions as the Premier League side concluded the league phase of the Europa League with a convincing win against their Hungarian visitors at the City Ground.

The hosts had previously guaranteed a berth in the next qualifying round and entered this fixture with a small chance of reaching the league's elite, although they required other matches to fall in their favor.

That did not happen but this assured performance will give Forest fans belief that their side can navigate the home-and-away tie to reach the last 16.

Kristoffer Zachariassen did hit the post with a headed effort inside the first 10 minutes for the away team – coached by ex-Premier League forward Robbie Keane – but it was all Forest from then on.

They broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Ryan Yates' cross was deflected in by Bence Otvos and added a second four minutes later – the striker squeezing a shot in at the far post for his tenth strike of the campaign.

Jesus' eleventh goal came soon after the restart when he made a perfectly-timed run to escape the defence and then place a shot past the shot-stopper.

That goal ended the visitors' aspirations of making a comeback and instead Forest added a fourth when the impressive McAtee scored from a penalty after a infringement by the unfortunate Bence Otvos inside the penalty area on the winger.

The Europa League qualifying round lottery takes place on the final Friday of January (12:00 GMT), where Nottingham Forest might face either Fenerbahce or the Greek club.

"It is not just the result, there was that feel about it. I want these players to do well as a unit, the whole squad," said manager Sean Dyche.

"This is another stride forward, but it is a positive step."

Forest Analysis: Striker Shines as Recent Arrival Observes from Stands

Igor Jesus has been a revelation for Forest in European competition this term with six of his eleven strikes coming in the Europa League.

This double also means he has got three goals in his previous two outings and the prospect of a challenge for his position in the forward line could be spurring him on.

Italian forward Lorenzo Lucca was last week brought in temporarily and he was observing this game from the directors' box.

That may well have been on Jesus' thoughts as he was impressive against the opposition, delivering two superb goals and generally being a constant threat to the opposition backline with his speed and movement.

The forward was not alone in impressing, with James McAtee producing his finest display in a Forest jersey since signing from Manchester City last summer, while the Swiss international also impressed.

Such positive showings will give the club some renewed optimism as they switch focus to pulling further away from the Premier League relegation zone when they host Crystal Palace on the weekend.

"All you can ask for is a response," continued the manager.

"I've never questioned their work ethic or their dedication or integrity. It is just about displaying your quality.

"McAtee was very good and Dan was super sharp. Jesus got another two and these are good signs."
