An individual who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and gave them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.
The accused was detained after eight children and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The accused was remanded in custody before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the following morning.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated the man continued to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Authorities" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining the police response of the situation.
The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the family member notified the authorities again.
She explained the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a area of five youngsters.
