Our Task Consists of Only Killing' - How Sudan's Brutal Militia Perpetrated a Mass Killing
Caution: This Report Contains Explicit Descriptions of Killings.
Fighters chuckle as they ride on the rear of a utility vehicle, racing past a row of several corpses and moving towards the descending Sudan's evening sky.
"See this extensive accomplishment. See this act of genocide," a combatant exclaims.
The individual smiles as he directs the video equipment on himself and his associate combatants, their RSF insignia visible: "They are all going to perish like this."
The men are rejoicing over a mass killing that relief organizations believe killed more than two thousand civilians in the African metropolis of al-Fashir in recent weeks.
A City Isolated from the World
Following their control of the community under blockade for nearly two years, from the summer the paramilitary force moved to strengthen its control and prevent access for the remaining civilian population.
Space-based imagery reveal that forces started to construct a immense earth barrier - a raised dirt embankment - surrounding the edges of al-Fashir, blocking roads and halting aid.
During the encirclement escalated, 78 people were murdered in an militia assault on a mosque on September 19th, while the United Nations said fifty-three more were killed in aerial and cannon bombardments on a displacement camp in the autumn.
Explicit Footage Shows Defenseless People Executed
By sunrise on 26 October the militia defeated the final military defenses and seized the primary compound in the community, the headquarters of the Military Unit, as the military retreated.
Perhaps the most graphic footage to appear and analysed revealed the results of a massacre at a university building on the western of the community, where numerous dead bodies were visible strewn throughout the floor.
An older man clad in a traditional garment remained alone amongst the victims. The individual turned to glance as a combatant armed with a firearm proceeded along the stairs in the direction of him. Raising his firearm, the fighter released a one bullet at the individual, who dropped to the surface lifeless.
"How come is this one yet breathing," another combatant shouted. "Execute him."
Satellite images captured on October 26th indicated to confirm that executions were also carried out on the streets of el-Fasher, based on a report published by the university analysis team.
One observer who provided testimony said the individual had witnessed "multiple of our relatives being massacred - the victims were assembled in one place and everyone eliminated."
Paramilitary Leaders Seek to Carry Out Damage Control
Following the events that followed the atrocity, RSF commander conceded that his troops had perpetrated "atrocities" and announced the incidents would be looked into.
Among those apprehended was following a analysis recording his executions. Meticulously staged and modified video posted on the militia's authorized Telegram account depict the individual being taken into a detention area at a prison on the edges of the city.
At the same time, the militia and affiliated online profiles began attempting to reframe the story.
Content presenting its fighters providing supplies to residents were shared by several individuals, while the paramilitary's media office released multiple clips claiming to demonstrate the compassionate handling of military captives.
In spite of the social media campaign being employed by the RSF, their actions in el-Fasher have provoked worldwide condemnation.
