Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to change things and get a victory of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal discussions I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a period such as this with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
