Soccer Analyst Chris Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Premier League Forecasts

Arsenal's ten-match victorious run came to an end by Sunderland prior to the global break, but can the English top division frontrunners recover against local foes Spurs this weekend?

"{I feel like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this match," remarked football specialist Chris Sutton.

"The Spurs manager will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating finest this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's side usually still find a way to win."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this term, versus AI, readers and a variety of special visitors.

For the twelfth round, he faces singer Olly Murs, who is a United fan.

The singer's new album, Knees Up, is available on the weekend.

Football and Family Life

Olly is a talented footballer as well as a accomplished singer and has been a featured player of several charity football games over time - but he is not intending a professional comeback as a footballer.

"{I recently played in a benefit match the other evening for a mate of mine," he explained. "The team was losing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you will!

"I continue to love football, but I injured my joint a few years ago and it still hasn't fully recovered. I hope I could play more but the unpredictability of the sport means it's too dangerous for me in my profession to do it properly again.

"Additionally I am 41 now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my daughter or son chooses to play instead."

The singer and his spouse Amelia Tank have two children, Madison and Albert, and he is ready to follow in his father's footsteps by taking on the role of their coach.

"I will not push football on our children but I've already told Amelia that if they happen to get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my coaching badges - and I will probably be coaching their Saturday soccer side," he added.

"I watched my relatives play a lot, and I truly got into it, and I clearly owned a soccer team for a period too.

"My dad coached with us when I was a kid, which is likely where I get it from. He managed our side for several seasons and had great fun with it. That might be the next step for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Top Division Predictions

Weekend, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to be patient for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their offense is now more potent with Joao Pedro and Liam Delap both returned to fitness.

In my opinion this fixture will be fairly tight, however. The Clarets are disciplined and their only at Turf Moor losses so far have been against the Reds and the Gunners.

It suggests a 1-1 tie to me, but I am in fact going to go with Chelsea to win narrowly for what would be their third league win in a row.

The expert's prediction: 1-2

Olly's prediction: Chelsea will be too strong. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Bournemouth have been defeated in their previous couple matches - although both of them were on the road - but they got absolutely spanked by Aston Villa last time out which shocked me.

In contrast, the Hammers secured two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they do look competitive again.

West Ham's only on the road win this season came at Nottingham Forest in the summer, when their manager Nuno was still that team's manager.

Therefore, what exactly do I predict here - can West Ham continuing their streak under their manager, or the home side responding?

I am going to go with Bournemouth, because I think what happened against Villa was a blip.

Sutton's forecast: 2-0

The guest's prediction: Bournemouth are doing well but West Ham have picked up under Nuno. 2-2

The algorithm's prediction: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

Brentford were considered one of the frontrunners for the drop before the season began, but they have impressed a several people under their manager and are in good form with three in their past four games.

A family member told me to get Brentford forward Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks back and, guess what, I didn't listen.

Thiago will probably score again on the weekend but I am still not going to pick him or support Brentford at Amex Stadium.

The Bees have not had much success on the road this season, and Brighton are always decent at home. The visitors will try to hit them on the break but I think Fabian Hurzeler's side pose much more of a danger.

Sutton's forecast: 2-1

The singer's prediction: This could be one of those games where you think there is going to be a lot of scores but it in reality turns out to be rather tight. 1-1

AI's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

This is a massive game for the Cottagers, who have lost five of their last six games.

They have have plenty of quality in their team but it still seems like they could be dragged into a relegation battle.

Regarding the Black Cats, indeed they are the surprise package of the Premier League season so far.

The away side's performance in the two-all tie with the Gunners last time out was excellent. We have not witnessed anyone else rough up the North London side like that this term, and they were more than a match for them.

The logical choice would be to support the Black Cats here, because they are obviously capable of roughing the hosts up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they beat Chelsea at the end of last month.

However I am not do that. Rather, I truly need to carry on going against the away team with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of responsibility for their good results because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Looking at Fulham's at Craven Cottage record, the sole side they have lost to is Arsenal. Their manager's side will be absolutely eager for a good result, so I am going to predict they will secure three much-needed points.

The expert's prediction: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I know the visitors are performing strongly and additionally that the hosts are on a bad streak... but Fulham have still been decent at Craven Cottage this season. 2-0

AI's prediction: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

This is a hard one to predict. The Reds have suffered seven of their last ten matches in every tournament, but might they be one of the sides who profit from the {international break|
