The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
